How to use the Learning Lab

Use the image mode when you want to become more familiar with the visual shape of poses. The Sanskrit mode connects the English pose names used throughout the site with their Sanskrit names. The progression mode uses relationships already stored in the pose database and asks which pose can represent a logical next step from another pose.

A wrong answer is useful information. Open the explanation or full pose guide, look at the setup and relationships, then try another question. The aim is to make the pose library easier to understand and remember rather than to produce a perfect score.

What the progression questions mean

A progression is a possible next learning step, not a prescription that every practitioner should follow. Progressions can increase balance demand, strength, coordination, range of motion or another aspect of a pose. Individual comfort, experience and health considerations still matter.

For a broader view of these relationships, use the Pose Progression Explorer. You can also browse all yoga poses or build a complete practice with the Practice Builder.
